Follow Christ

Here is a simple VIDEO summary of the HERE!

What does it mean to follow Christ?  KNOW, GROW, SHOW

The first and most important step is to KNOW Christ! That happens as we begin a relationship with Him by being "born again" or "saved." Below we share with you how you can come to know Christ and begin that relationship with Him.

(John 3:3, 16-17; Romans 10:9, 13; Philippians 3:10)

The next step is to GROW in that new relationship. Being saved is not the end, but only the beginning!

An important step of growing is baptism.  Baptism is our way of declaring our faith and sharing with others our commitment to follow Christ.  It does not save us, but shows others that we are saved.  It is our first step of obedience.

Next, we greatly encourage believers to be regular in worship, and to find a small group Bible study. Here you can grow in the Bible, prayer, and relationships with other believers.

(1 Peter 2:2, Colossians 2:7)

Finally, we SHOW our faith by serving and the way we live our faith in the church, community, and world.

As we serve, we help meet needs and grow the Kingdom of Christ. When we serve, we are most like Christ.

As we live out our faith, we show others how Christ can change a life. We make them "hungry" for what we have.

(Matthew 5:16, 1 Peter 2:12; Matthew 10:45, Galatians 5:13)

How to I come to KNOW Christ?

Realize My Need for Christ

The Bible says that I am a sinner (disobedient to God in my heart, my words, and my actions). In fact, it says that we all are (Romans 3:23). That sin brings death--a spiritual death (Romans 6:23). That spiritual death is being forever separated from God in a place called Hell. The only way to escape Hell is to get rid of our sin. But, no matter how much I do or how hard I try, I cannot get rid of that sin. That's why I need Christ!

Accept His Gift to Me

That's why Jesus died on the cross for us--to forgive our sin! The Bible says that Jesus--who had never sinned--became sin for us so that we could be made right with God (2 Corinthians 5:21). But He did not do this because we deserved it. He did this as a gift to us! Romans 6:23 says that "the free gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." God's gift is forgiveness and eternal life.

How does that gift become ours?  The Bible says in Romans 10:9 that "if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved."  So, Jesus asks that we 1). confess Him as Lord (make Him the boss, ruler, master of our lives) and 2). believe that He died on the cross and came back to life 3 days later.  If we do, He sasys that He will save us from sin and death!

So, in your own words, tell Jesus that you know He died for you on the cross, and came back to life. Ask Him to forgive you and take away the guilt and shame of your sin. Then, ask Him to take over your life and be the Boss. Surrender your life to Him.

His Promise to Me

"He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God." 1 John 5:12-13

I believe these do I begin that relationship with God?‚Äč

God invites you to talk with Him in prayer.  There are no "set words" or "magical words" that have to be used, rather He is most interested in your heart.  You can pray or talk with Him at any time and in any place.  When you pray and give your life to Him, you begin a relationship with Him that He promises to keep forever.  You can know for sure that you are forgiven and will be in heaven (1 John 5:12-13).
